Starting pitcher John McCarthy pitched well enough to help the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks beat the Anchorage Whalers, 7-5. McCarthy, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 3 walks. Jerry Howard earned the save, his 8th, for the Whiskey Jacks.

Daniel Spracklin dealt the Whalers a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with the bases loaded and Wheat City leading 3-2, Spracklin, who is tied for 7th in the FL in RBI with 16, hit a 1-0 cutter for a 2-run single.

"We'll savor this win," McCarthy told the Wheat City Times, "then get ready for the next game."

With the victory, the Whiskey Jacks upped their record to 13-11.
