Wheat City starter Barney Feldman pitched effectively against the Tuscon Raiders at Tetrad Core Colloseum. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-3. Quim Holland, credited with the win, is now 1-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit. Chad Yates earned save number 1 this season.
Wheat City used the clutch hitting of Rocky Gross to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Whiskey Jacks ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"It's not about individual awards," Gross told a Wheat City Bulletin reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
Tuscon, at 13-15, has lost 4 straight.
