Monongahelas Sneak Past Mavericks, 3-2
|
Phoenix got a big-time effort from pitcher Mike Queen, but it wasn't enough to keep the Pittsburgh Monongahelas from winning the game, 3-2. Queen threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The winner in relief was Will Schulz. He is now 5-2. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. The Monongahelas raised their record to 35-38.
Pittsburgh relied on the bat of Bobby Castaneda to get the win. The second baseman ripped a solo home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Monongahelas ahead, 3-2. For the game, Castaneda had 1 double and 1 home run in 6 at-bats.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Castaneda. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
