Torres hits 2 home runs, Defenders Move to 20-2
|
Defenders third baseman Roberto Torres put his stamp on his team's 6-4 win over the Orlando Aces. Torres hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for San Juan in the contest. The winner was Andy Collett, who threw 101 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 6 hits. With the win, San Juan pushed its record to 20-2.
The Aces had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Defenders going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 2047 Most Valuable Player Award winner Earl Cote came to the plate. Cote hit a bases-clearing triple on a full count fastball from Orlando hurler Joel Finger. It was Cote's 2nd triple of the year.
"There's a lot of good karma around our club," said winning manager Lookie Wookie.
